Raksha Nepal’s relief distribution program for the earthquake affected vulnerable women

The day of 12^th July 2015 was a very auspicious day for Raksha Nepal (RN). On that day, Raksha Nepal had organized a relief distribution program for the earthquake affected vulnerable women. It was a great privileged for Rakash Nepal because former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was a chief guest of the program. Many celebrities such as Komal oli (singer), Badri Pangeni (singer), Jitu Nepal (comedian), had attended the program by accepting one invitation. Our very well wisher Dr. Tara Niroula , who resides in the US also graced the program. About 350 people were present in the occasion including journalist, photographer and our guests.

The formal program was started at 11.20 A.M. after the arrival of the chief guest. Five girls children decorated with Nepali traditional dresses welcomed the chief guest. Many women who were waiting to receive the reliefs were seemed to be very happy and eagerly waiting in welcoming the guests. The program was officially chaired by Ms. Menuka Thapa. Ms. Thapa is also the founder chairperson of Raksha Nepal.

Ms. Thapa in her welcome speech made clear about the objective of organizing the relief distribution program. She also explicitly explained how women are vulnerable and also explained about the activities of Raksha Nepal. After her, a famous comedian Jitu Nepal made the program humorous through his caricature which even did not leave the former Prime Minister sit without a laugh.

The third and the most awaited remark was put by the chief guest. He applauded the Rakash Nepal's activities, and all forms of inhuman activities against women and girls. He also gave words that he is always with the Rakash Nepal in eliminating all forms of sexual violence against women and girls. Then the formal program of speeches was over.

The speaker of the program Ms. Iswori Thapa requested the chief guest to felicitate some of the donors of Rakash Nepal who had been supporting financially. At first, some international well wishers and donors were felicitated by the chief guest Dr. Baburam Bhattrai and the people who got appreciation were Megz Cain, Megan karki, from the US, Harambee Arts groups and V. Prameela from Sampak India. After finishing the appreciation program, Dr. Bhattrai started the relief distribution program symbolically by providing reliefs to six women. Due to the busy schedule the chief guest left the program.

When the next entertainment session program was started the famous singer Komal Oli, Badri Pangeni made the program exciting and more memorable. Several participants of the program danced when Komal Oli was on the stage. Similarly, daughters of Raksha Nepal performed a very interesting dance which lured the audiences. One of the volunteers of Raksha Nepal Miss Rina's dance in a movie song was applauded by the audiences.

In the middle of the entertainment program many guests delivered their speeches and praised Raksha Nepal’s activities and also gave a word that they would be along with the RN in its every moment. The guests who delivered the speeches were Dr. Tara NIroula, and Ms. Sarada Bhusal.

However the program was going on, the invites and the women who came to receive relief took a good lunch which was sponsored by the RN. After the launch, program of relief distribution was again started where women received some stuffs as a relief. The relief was distributed through the hands of Mr. Ghanashyam Niroula , Administrative director and Ms. Anita Subba program Director of the RN where the women got rice, tarpaulin , lentils, beaten rice edible oil, salt, biscuits and noodles as the relief materials.

The relief distribution program was actively supported by the staffs and volunteers of Raksha Nepal with whom the program could not have happened successfully. From the 9^th of July, the volunteers and staffs of the RN were very busy in collecting and packing the relief materials. Ms Iswori Thapa, Muna Nepali, Somaya Khapung , Sabina Lama Renuka Chaulagain worked very hard to make the program happen. Also, some of the volunteer for example: Anju Dangol, Rina and Pratima work was commendable.

At 5 PM the recipients of relief materials left the venue and the program was over. We would like to thank very much for the hard work of all Raksha Nepal’s staffs and the volunteers. Similarly, we want to offer sincere gratitude to the ex-Prime Minister for making his time available. Likewise, Komal Oli, Badri pangeni, Jitu Nepal, International guests and all other guests’ presence in the program is highly appreciated which directly gave an encouragement to Raksha Nepal to perform better in the coming days.

At least but not the least, we are very much obliged to the DKA and KFB, Austria our donor agencies who had helped us financially in the relief distribution. We are also hopeful to the organization that they will continue their support in the future. We are also thankful to the owner of CW restaurant who provided the restaurant for the program venue.
